Pet Ultrasound
What is a Vet Ultrasound Used for on Dogs and Cats?
Veterinary pet ultrasound is a non-invasive animal diagnostics tool that allows vets to examine internal organs and soft tissues in dogs and cats. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images, helping vets diagnose a wide range of conditions.
The Most Common Uses of Animal Ultrasound for Pet Health Diagnosis
Dog and Cat Abdominal Scans
Non-invasive imaging to examine internal organs to diagnose, liver conditions, kidney conditions, spleen, intestines, and bladder conditions or for abnormalities such as tumours, blockages, or infections.
Dog and Cat Pregnancy Scans

Heart Ultrasound (Echocardiography) for Dogs and Cats
Ultrasound is one of the vet tools used to look for a heart condition, assess heart function, detect murmurs, and diagnose heart disease.
Animal Ultrasound for Bladder & Urinary Tract Conditions
Pet ultrasound is a good choice to check for bladder stones, infections, or tumours.
Detection of Lumps & Tumours

Ultrasound Guided Surgical Procedures for Biopsies
Veterinary imaging is used to assist with needle biopsies or fluid drainage from organs.
Diagnosis of Dog and Cat Gastrointestinal Issues
Vet ultrasound can help vets locate and detect intestinal blockages, inflammation, or abnormal growths.
All Animal Trust surgeries are equipped with a high-class vet ultrasound machine. Our 24/7 Pet Accident and Emergency Hospitals may use veterinary imaging in an emergency to diagnose your dog or cat’s problem quickly.
The vet scan results are usually available right after the pet ultrasound, if tissue samples are taken, they may need to be sent to a specialised lab if our in-house lab isn't able to perform the tests. Your vet will discuss what they’ve been able to diagnose from the pet ultrasound with you and explain any treatment or surgical options.
