Medicine Referral Service

Animal Trust is proud to offer an affordable Advanced Practitioner-led internal medicine service for the investigation and treatment of a range of conditions including:  

• Autoimmune diseases in which the pet’s own immune system attacks part of their body.  

• Critical care for example blood transfusions, central lines, feeding tubes and blood gas analysis.  

• Endocrine disorders (hormone disorders) such as diabetes mellitus, Addison’s disease and hyperthyroidism.  

• Gastrointestinal diseases, for example, chronic or acute diarrhoea or vomiting  

• Hepatobiliary disease includes investigation and management of problems with the liver and gall bladder  

• Infectious diseases such as leishmania and FIP.  

• Oncology including staging of cancers, chemotherapy and palliative care.  

• Respiratory diseases such as pneumonia or feline asthma or investigations for coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge or breathing difficulties.  

• Urogenital diseases include diseases which affect the kidneys, urinary bladder and reproductive system, for example, management of chronic kidney disease or investigation of excessive urination.  

 
We are also happy to see pets who may not fit into any of these categories, for example, if they are lethargic, losing weight or have an unexplained fever.  

A typical referral will include a comprehensive review of previous medical history and test results and a physical examination, then we will discuss a plan for diagnostic investigations and treatment. In most cases, diagnostic tests can be performed on the same day.  

Routine appointments are available on a Thursday at our Ellesmere Port hospital, with urgent appointments available on request.
