Pet Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgery
Dogs and cats, much like humans, can experience a range of ear, nose, and throat problems that may affect their comfort and quality of life.
Ear, nose, and throat problems in dogs and cats are common and can significantly impact their lives. For instance, a chronic ear infection can cause a pet to be in constant pain, while a poorly conformed airway can cause breathing problems, particularly in heat or during exercise.
We support thousands of dogs, cats and their owners with Pet ENT surgery and treatment each year to help improve their quality of life.
Our Pet (ENT) Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and treatment for dogs and cats include the following:
BOAS Treatment & Surgery for dogs and cats (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome Surgery)
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome is a condition that affects flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs, and Persian cats. These breeds have shortened skulls, which can lead to restricted airways, making it difficult for them to breathe properly.
Lateral Wall Resection for Dogs and Cats
Lateral wall resection is a surgical procedure performed on dogs (and occasionally cats) to treat chronic ear infections (otitis externa) or narrowed ear canals (stenotic ear canals). The surgery involves removing the outer wall of the vertical ear canal to improve airflow and drainage to reduce infection and inflammation.
TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation)for Dogs and Cats
Total Ear Canal Ablation, Ear Surgery (TECA) is a surgical procedure that involves the complete removal of the ear canal in dogs and cats. This procedure is performed to eliminate chronic ear infections, pain, and inflammation when other treatments have failed. TECA is typically done alongside a bulla osteotomy, where the middle ear (bulla) is opened and cleaned to remove any remaining infection.
Tonsillectomy for Dogs and cats
A tonsillectomy, throat surgery, is a surgical procedure to remove one or both tonsils in dogs and cats. The tonsils, located at the back of the throat, play a role in the immune system but can become chronically inflamed, infected, or affected by tumours requiring removal.
Thyroidectomy for Dogs and Cats
A thyroidectomy (Pet Throat Surgery) is a surgical procedure to remove part or all of the thyroid gland in dogs and cats. The thyroid glands, located on either side of the trachea (windpipe), regulate metabolism by producing thyroid hormones. This surgery is typically performed to treat thyroid tumours in dogs or hyperthyroidism in cats.
Nasopharyngeal polyp / tumour removal for Dogs and Cats
Pet nasal surgery, Nasopharyngeal polyp removal is a surgical procedure to remove benign polyps that develop in the nasopharynx (the area at the back of the nasal cavity and throat) or the middle ear of dogs and cats. These growths are non-cancerous but can cause breathing difficulties, ear infections, or swallowing problems if they become large enough.
Ear flushing for Dogs and Cats
Ear flushing is a veterinary procedure that thoroughly cleans the ear canal in dogs and cats. It removes excess wax, debris, infections, parasites (such as ear mites), and foreign objects that can cause discomfort and hearing issues. Ear flushing is often performed under sedation or anaesthesia when routine ear cleaning is insufficient.
