Lilly has surgery to save her leg

Yorkshire Terrier Lilly has orthopaedic surgery

Lilly is a three-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. Unfortunately, she was attacked by another dog, resulting in a broken leg.

Her owners brought her to Animal Trust Ellesmere Port hospital, where the team assessed her condition and determined that she would need surgery to stabilise the broken bone. Lilly underwent surgery, and due to her very small size and the risk of infection from the bite wound, an external metal support system (external fixator) was placed on the leg to secure it.

Lilly’s recovery required close monitoring, she was prescribed pain relief medication to keep her comfortable, and her activity had to be restricted to prevent any strain on the healing bone. Her owners played a crucial role in her aftercare and attended multiple follow-up appointments. During these visits, the veterinary team performed X-rays to track the progress of the healing fracture and to make sure there were no signs of infection or complications.

Despite the challenges, Lilly remained a resilient little dog. She adapted well to her temporary fixator, and after four months of wearing it, she was finally able to have it removed. With her leg now fully healed, Lilly has made a fantastic recovery and is back to enjoying her everyday activities.
