Life saving facial surgery for Barney
Barney a three year old Staffy cross. Barney was adopted by his owners at 10 months old from an animal rescue centre in Manchester.
Barney came to be treated at Animal Trust Ashton earlier this year with a mast cell tumour that was growing within the corner of his eye. It was a malignant tumour that needed to be removed, along with a portion of healthy tissue to prevent recurrence. These types of tumours can be fatal in some cases, so this was a vital procedure for Barney.
For vet Chris and nurse Katie the challenge was to remove as much tissue as possible to reduce the chances of it coming back again, whilst preserving Barney’s eye. Following discussions with Barney’s owner, the team performed a complex procedure to remove the tumour.
The tumour was completely removed and Barney’s wound healed well, as you can see from the recent photo of Barney, he has recovered well and is back to his smiley self.
What Barney’s owner had to say ‘I can’t thank you all enough for everything Chris and the team have done for Barney. His life has been saved and he is getting better every day.’
