Florence has treatment for painful eye ulcer
Florence is an 8-year-old Staffie, she was referred to Animal Trust Ellesmere Port for an Ophthalmology consult due to a painful, non-healing ulcer in her left eye. Despite much discomfort, she remained a bright and happy girl.
After a thorough ophthalmic examination with vet Sam, along with an exam of corneal samples in the lab, Florence was diagnosed with SCCED (Spontaneous Chronic Corneal Epithelial Defect), a condition in older dogs where eye ulcers don't heal properly.
To help Florence, we performed a procedure under the eye whilst Florence was under anaesthetic. With a few more weeks of medical management, her eye fully healed! We're happy to see her feeling comfortable again.
