This is Dot, a three-year-old Bulldog. Dot was struggling with tail fold issues — a common problem for her breed. Despite her owners’ best efforts to manage it, she was constantly itchy, uncomfortable, and getting skin infections. It was affecting her happiness, causing her to rub, spin, and even try to chew at her tail.
Her owners, concerned for her wellbeing, brought Dot to see vet Rebecca at Animal Trust Shrewsbury. Rebecca discussed options with Dot's owners, and it was decided that a caudectomy (screw tail removal) would give Dot a much better quality of life.
Screw tail removal is a delicate procedure due to the tail’s proximity to the rectum, but Dot’s surgery went smoothly — and she’s now happier, more comfortable, and free from irritation.
